About the Conference/Arts Festival

Dear Friends,
It is a pleasure to invite you to The 2008 GCI Annual All-Youths Conference and Arts Festival, “GCI 2008 UNILAG”, Nigeria scheduled to take place on the 29th November-2nd of December 2008, at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Information on the MDGS and the role of young people

This event brings together all youths in various higher institutions of learning in Nigeria and Ghana. It will showcase their achievements, challenges, talents, exchange information, present awards and provide opportunities for them to interact with professionals from various institutions, companies, and agencies.

The festival/conference will provide internship opportunities, contacts with different firms, and companies; school exchange programs, career counseling opportunities by successful business men, and women.

Theme

Roles, Actions, and Achievements of young people in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The 2008 GCI Conference Sub-themes

  • Youth Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention.
  • Violence amongst youth, taking action to create Peace Initiatives.
  • Youth helping youth, youth leadership for a solidarity society.
  • Youth and Drug abuse. Human Rights, Youth Perspectives on Development, Early Marriage and Adolescent Girls.
  • Life Skills and Career Building.
  • Tools for youth to help in achieving the MDGs, learning to speak MDGs and youth activism.
  • Empowering young people through ICT-with ICT based capacity building.
  • Report from GCI Chapters within and outside Nigeria

Participants

Over 2,000 GCI members National and International, students, GCI Advisory council, Board of Directors, partner companies, top chart Actors and Actresses, Musicians, sponsors, and other participating youths.

We invite you to set aside the key dates and begin planning for attendance and participation in this event. In a special way we wish to invite you to submit abstracts, Arts works and theatre/ music performances for consideration if you intend to make a presentation under any of the themes, sub-themes and topics of the Conference.

Lastly, we kindly invite you to support the organizing Committee of this Conference and Arts Festival by disseminating this information as widely as possible within your school, network of individuals and youth organizations that might be interested in attending this Conference.
